Tell us a bit about yourself
I’m Suzanne, I have a husband, Terry and two children.
What sort of jobs have you had previously
Previously, I’ve been a hairdresser since I left school in 1978. But I’ve also as a Beauty Advisor/Counter Manager on a make-up and beauty stall in a high-street department store for about two years.
I’ve also worked as a carer. That was very rewarding, but I slipped a disk really badly in my back and I’ve suffered ever since.
What do you like to get up to in your spare time?
Yoga, mainly. I’ve been doing yoga since about 1980. I love it.
I also enjoy reading, music is a big passion of mine, and I love walking. I’m passionate about long, challenging walks.
A few years ago, we went to Hawaii and we climbed Mount Diamondhead. I left Terry way behind.
What made you want to start your own franchise?
I felt like I needed a change, so we went to a franchise exhibition in Birmingham to see what was out there.
My husband has done it and my son has done it, so I know how beneficial it is to have the support of the franchise. You don’t feel as though you’re totally on your own.
With hairdressing, I did work for myself. But it was very small scale in comparison and I was working mobile so there wasn’t as much risk.
Why Coffee Blue?
I liked the brand and I liked the people. We looked at all sorts of other franchise opportunites, even meeting with other mobile coffee franchises.
I didn’t really get the same feel for the people as I did with Coffee Blue. It was very corporate.
Coffee Blue has more of a family feel about it. Everyone was much nicer and the van is very nice as well.
Plus, the coffee is lovely. One of my favourite places for coffee is Illy’s in London – and the Coffee Blue blend is right up there with it.
What’s the response been like from friends and family?
Our friends were really excited. I’ve already told all of my old hairdressing clients and the old people’s home I used to work at and they’re all keen for me to sell them some coffees.
What advice would you give those interested in joining Coffee Blue?
Go for it!
What’s your favourite coffee to make and drink?
Latte, definitely. Both to drink and make. I like the challenge of getting the latte milk right.
What are your hopes for the future?
To make a success of this. Eventually, I’d like to employ people to run some more vans, perhaps even do most of the work for me so I can retire!
